The 2020 Barolo Perno is a fine choice for drinking over the near- and medium-term, and also a wine that will give readers a very good look at the house style. Macerated red cherry, rose petal, mint, spice and blood orange all meld together effortlessly in the glass. Time in bottle has softened some of the wood tannins here, which suggests the same will be the case with the 2021, in due course. This is very easy to drink and like, even in the early going. It opens nicely with air and yet remains beautifully poised.
