Malvasia is one of my favorite white grapes of the year, and all these exciting offerings from Friuli Venezia Giulia in northeast Italy are showing beautifully. This is especially true of the Kante 2017 Malvasia. This is a distinctive wine with subtle complexity that does not pass unnoticed. On top of the expected aromas of orchard fruit, peach blossom and honey, this specific wine makes room for a pronounced mineral character and some delicate spice. The wine is not openly fragrant—instead its aromatic footprint emerges slowly at first, and more firmly later. It's another great choice for an aperitivo with mortadella and prosciutto crudo. 2021 - 2025
