Ricasoli har i særklasse taget del i historien om Chianti vine der for alvor kom på landkortet i midten af 1800-tallet. Baron Bettoni Ricasoli var vin-entrepreneur (og højtstående politiker) og opnåede anerkendelse og hæder i 1860erne og 1870erne. Han nedfældede i 1872 det der senere blev grundlag og retningslinjer for produktion af Chianti vine. Ricasoli er en af verdens ældste vingårde eller rettere vinslotte, der blev grundlagt i år 1141. Ricasoli råder over 240 ha vinmarker i Chianti distriktet. De sidste 20 år er det Francesco Ricasoli, den 32. baron i rækken der sidder ved roret. I samarbejde med den succesfulde ønolog Carlo Ferrini har Ricasoli siden starten af 1990erne høstet stor anerkendelse for sine vine og blev bl.a. kåret til årets vingård (i Italien) af Gambero Rosso i 2002. I quite enjoyed the 2015 Chianti Classico Brolio Bettino, thanks to its generous brightness and supple fruit flavors. This wine is 90% Sangiovese with 10% Abrusco (another name for Colorino) aged in oak for 18 months. The first year this wine was produced was 2013. It shows a dark and balanced appearance with integrated spice and loads of rich fruit. The warm vintage has played its role in terms of increasing the intensity and the wide reach of the bouquet.

The big news from Barone Ricasoli this year is the addition of a new wine. The 2013 Chianti Classico Brolio Bettino is dedicated to Bettino Ricasoli, the family ancestor who invented the blending formula for the production of Chianti in 1872. He was a leading figure in the Italian Risorgimento and was twice Prime Minister of a newly united Italy. He is considered the founding father of Chianti Classico and this new wine definitely does him proud.
